Gratitude Monday - Cakes and Rain

Last week we were treated to a few rain days. This is good in that we're having a drought, but it meant my husband was off work for a bit. He put his time to good use by making some practice cakes.
It is his wish to perfect the cake that has the top recessed a bit to allow for a gelled fruit topping. I am grateful he got the opportunity to make two last week before work got in the way.
I was his guinea pig.
Emphasis on pig.

This is the second effort before the gelled liquid was added on top. It included rum.
Did I mention I was grateful?

Totally had me laughing because I'd so be the same way.

Cake is indeed something to be grateful for!

I cant believe your husband bakes! Mine not only doesnt he really only "appreciates" the unbaked.

the boxed and the tubed (cookies).
scratch is wasted on that man :)

Thomma Lyn, I'm always happy to try out what he's made.

Miz, he does all the ethnic Christmas baking ie Liebkuchen and Linzertorte, plus makes a damned fine pound cake. The springform pans, flan pans, and whatnot are his, not mine

When your husband gets his technique perfected please share the recipe with us. The fruit is certainly healthy to eat, and the rum would be a bonus.

Good chuckle, thanks.

I'll see what I can do, Barbara. You're welcome.
