Canoeing on the Clearwater

Last Sunday Mike and I took the canoe out for a trip down the Clearwater River south of Rocky.
We put in at one bridge about eight or so miles from town and got out at a second bridge about three miles from town.

The water was murky and we found plenty of rapids to enjoy. If you're wondering, the water is quite shallow. We could often touch bottom with the paddles and we scraped gravel a few times.

The river has some tall. dramatic banks with gravity-defying vegetation.

During the trip I couldn't help but think what a Canadian thing this was to do. The country was opened up by explorers and fur traders who traveled by canoe.

We found several islands in the stretch we did.

Someone tried to make river access easier.

The land changed from steep banks to rolling farmland as we neared the second bridge and it brought us back to civilization, both in reality and in our minds.

Happy Canada Day everyone. I hope you get a chance to explore something.

Isn't it fun to be able to go back and remember how things used to be done, and do a bit of the same?

A blessed and happy Canada Day to you and yours.

That's some way to enjoy your Sunday! Some great snaps again, Leah. I'd have been to worried about 'rolling' the canoe to take my camera. :-)

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!

Why thank you, Carla. Have fun exploring.

Messymimi,it is fun. And canoeing is a great way to see the things we usually miss. Thank you.

David B. it was wonderful. Thanks. I worried, too, so I took my Olympus. It's waterproof.

Oh lovely. I went canoeing with my son when he visited us up at the cottage for a couple of days last week. Like David, I was concerned about bringing either of my cameras along. I felt naked without it though! This post is a great way to celebrate Canada Day, eh? :)

Hilary, that was my thinking re: celebrating.
I totally hear you on worrying about cameras on canoes. I use the Fuji Finepix when we're fishing because it won't be quite as sad if it goes overboard. The Olympus is waterproof and has an underwater setting. I think it's supposed to float, too. The Pentax? I'd never relax if it was on the water with me.
