It's a much better day. I've caught up on many things and even managed to bake an apple pie in honour of the season. Time was found for writing this morning. I am no longer railing against the sky.

Thanks, Hilary. The pie was okay. The apples are small and quite sour and the cup of sugar (with cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne) wasn't quite enough for me. My husband, on the other hand, thought it was wonderful. In fairness, it is getting better each day.
