Two Sentence Tuesday -- How My TBR Pile Grows

The TBR pile and me.

Last week at the bookstore I hit a rich vein of luck. I bought a few children's books that I'd studiously ignored as a child and then found all the novels and stories featuring Sherlock Holmes.

My TBR pile now includes, but is not restricted to, Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne, A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers.

I was more than a little flummoxed to find both Uncle Tom's Cabin and Dracula in the children's section, but what the hey.  I'd  have read them as a child if I could have found them.
I've read several Sherlock Holmes stories, but finding Sherlock Holmes The Complete Novels and Stories Volume l and ll for a ridiculously good price was a gift from the reading gods that I had more sense than to ignore.

I love that pic with the deer!

I have a post going up shortly where I said 2011 is the year of classics for me. A great list you have here and I enjoyed the pithy excerpt from SAINTREE.

I also love the photo of the deer. I should read more, but with the outside deer there, I would have to put down the book once again.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth is one of my favorites! Of course I love anything by Jules Verne!

I had a two volume set of the complete works of Sherlock Holmes when I was younger, I loved it!

I love the picture! I think I'm in the same boat with my TBR list. I just added three more books to it last night!

It would seem that your TBR pile is... staggering! ;)

Thanks, David. I'll be over in a few minutes to see what you've done.

Tabor, thanks. You're visited often, too, are you?

Book Nut, good to see you. I'm looking forward to the Jules Verne book, but Holmes is going to keep me occupied a while. TBR's never seem to get smaller, do they?

Hilary, wonderful. I was curious what you'd do with this.

Bet my pile is bigger than your pile.

I love the picture! That's totally excellent. Oh, if you haven't read A Little Princess, I sort of envy you because you'll get to read it for the first time.

Betty, I'd take your bet, but I don't want to know.

Laura, thanks. Now I'm looking forward to reading it even more.

I first read Sherlock Holmes in sixth grade. Our teacher read us "The Speckled Band" one rainy day during recess, and I promptly went off and read all the rest of Holmes. They were coming out in a new paperback edition then, and I bought them all. I've read them over until the paper is crumbling. In fact, I'm re-reading them now because I'm watching Sherlock (the BBC show) on DVD right now.

If you haven't read A little princess you do have a treat coming. It's not as good as The secret garden...not quite.

Mary Anne, one Holmes is never enough.
Now I'm even more pumped to read Princess. I love The Secret Garden.

I've read those -- they are worth it.

Glad i'm not the one she is growling at. You sent chills up my spine.

Good to know, Messymimi. Thanks.

Oh, sounds wonderful! It is always fun to find a great collection like that. I love the photo and your lines.

Leah J. Utas said...

Reb, it's intellectually delicious.
Thanks.

Ha! That picture is priceless, Leah! Doesn't look like you, tho...

I just finished reading the last of the Anne of Green Gables series and I'm starting on the Little Women books. Because I have them. And I'm kind of a romantic at heart.

Me, again. I've just finished reading the comments...that Hilary! She's such a "deer". (I know, I know...not in her league but I couldn't resist).
