We got back to our own home yesterday. We'd been to Guatemala with a side trip to Honduras to see Mayan sites, the landscape, and whatever else the country had to offer.
We had to buy drinking water. We had to be careful about the local water splashing in our eyes or elsewhere.
I've been to a few countries over the years where the water was not safe to ingest, but this time made me appreciate tap water all that much more.
I am grateful for the potable water from the tap. At home we filter it, but I will happily drink it fresh from tap in restaurants or hotels.
It's good to be able to turn on a faucet and trust what comes out.
Safe water is a simple pleasure.
It's good to be reminded of how good we have it here.
A trip to a land where we have to think before we drink is a good reminder.

I love Guatemala.
It does have its charms. Umm, is your use of "chickenbus" as a code word due to having been on a chickenbus?
Glad to have you home, and glad you enjoyed your trip.
(Not splash it in your eyes? Wow! That's kinda scary.)
Eyes, ears, you name it. Any point of ingress is dicey. It's good to be careful.
That is wonderful all the places you get to travel and see!
Having had my own plumbing fail for a totally of a week between no power and then cracked pipes I am grateful every day for running, drinkable water. I don't know how people do it. And I know there is people even in our own country without available safe water. It was so hard on me, and yet I could go to someone's house for a shower and to fill my containers. And still it depressed me.
I am grateful for running water. I am grateful that I can do laundry, take a hot shower, clean dishes and drink it safely.
I am grateful for a new week with new energy. Have a great week!
A simple yet vitally important thing we take for granted in this part of the world.
Will we see photos of this trip?
thequiltingdoberman, sorry to hear about your plumbing issues. It does serve as a reminder as to how good we have it, doesn't it?
So true, Laurita. There'll be no escaping the pics.
Glad you are home & safe. Potable water is something to be grateful for. The water in my house in GP was potable but tasted funny, so I used to go to dad's and fill up a big container to use for drinking. I can't imagine having to be careful not to splash it in your eyes or other orifices - wow.
Thanks for the reminder, and welcome home.
Off-tasting water is off-putting at best, Reb. I can see why you'd haul it in.
I am sure some water got in here and there, but I seem to have gotten away with it so far.
Thank you, Messymimi.
Welcome back, we missed you!
Good point... safe drinking water is something much of the world doesn't get to take for granted. Thanks for the reminder of how lucky we are!
And I feel even more grateful that I can turn some of that safe drinking water into a nice big delicious restorative cup of coffee. Ahhh, coffee.
You're right that we are fortunate to have good water. However , I'm concerned with the fracing and use of water to produce gas.
Thank you, Crabby.
Totally agree about the restorative coffee. It's good to get a good cup here. Guatemala exports the really good stuff and leaves the leavings for the locals. We did okay as guests, though.
Red, so am I. We won't know what we've got until it's gone.
Welcome back, Leah. You can't get much more basic than water. I would have never guessed that ingesting it any way other than drinking would be risky.
