Gratitude Monday - A Normal Day

We forget the wonder in normal. The sense of security it can bring, and the evenness of feeling. Having a day like any other day gets taken for granted.
That is wrong.
There is beauty in calm and it deserves our attention.
Yesterday was just such a day.
We slept in until about 7:30 a.m which is normal for a weekend.
The day was overcast with a gentle snowfall. I put on a pot of stew and baked some cookies.
In the afternoon I wrote a few Christmas cards while the stew murmurred behind me and my husband did his woodcarving downstairs.
It was a simple day devoted to normal activities and simple pleasures. It was quiet and calm, as most days are for me.
But yesterday was different in that it drew my attention and I felt it on a level I rarely notice. For this reminder I am grateful.
It was a calm, normal day, and it was wonderful.

There is much to be said for normal - it makes us feel secure, and makes us appreciate the special times.
But I cherish the normal.

Normal around here includes lots of not so quiet stuff, and i love it, too. Someday, it probably won't be that way, so i enjoy it while i have it.

So true, Messymim. Enjoy what you have when you have it.

Few people take the time to savor 'the normal' and only realize how special it is when something awful steals it away for a while. Thanks for the reminder to look around and appreciate!

I have daily gratitude and thankfulness for the blessings in my life. These pre-Christmas days bring fond memories of cards, baking, and my late Mother putting the fixings of Christmas cake in a stone crock pot with weekly doses of brandy and whiskey (started in mid-November) for the perfect flavour come the 25th.

Crabby, that's so true. We don't know what we've got until it ain't there.

Barbara, that's good. And what a wonderful Christmas memory.
