For The Birds

One casts a longing look to the peanut feeders.

As another prepares to launch from a tree.

The Downy Woodpecker from the shed got there first.

Great shots, dfLeah. Are you sure those are Downy's? They look so big...oh, wait. Which is bigger, the Hairy or the Downy?

The Hairy is larger, dfBag Lady. I know they look big, but we had a Hairy Woodpecker visit a few days later and it gave me a chance to confirm.

That's what the Bag Lady thought. She has a Downy hanging around periodically, and also has a couple of Hairy's, and the Downy looks pretty tiny in comparison.
The Hairy is a fanatic food flinger, though -- he's going to break the Bag Lady, buying food for him to fling!

I like your pictures Leah.

Thanks, Reb.

So Bag Lady, the woodpecker has a hobby?

It's actually pretty funny - he perches on the feeder and just goes crazy, flinging the seeds left and right. Occasionally eats one, but scatters the majority. Don't know why...
The Bag Lady wishes he would take up knitting, or perhaps wood-carving...

These are some great photos!! I love keeping my feeders full in the winter to see who will come to visit and have a snack.
