This bluebird on a wire lent a glorious splash of colour to the last year's yellow-brown grasses and leaves out on the Kootenay Plains.
This was more than likely a western bluebird although he didn't turn around so I can't be sure. The area is one of the best places to see this beautiful bird.
Mountain bluebirds are out there, too, and we saw some. That's the only way I know we saw at least two different pair last week.
I hope this photo puts some colour in your day and puts a pleasant cap on your week.

Bluebird, pretty little bluebird... isn't there a song that goes something like that?
Lovely picture, cousin!
Thanks, df Bag Lady. I can only thinking of bluebird on my shoulder song. You'll have to help me out with the one on your mind.
Beautiful! I keep seeing beautiful cardinals on my walk but am never quick enough to take pictures. I also see a bird that is almost entirely black, but with a little of orange on the top of its wings. Anyone know what it could be?
Thanks, Missicat.
If you've got water around it might be a red-winged blackbird.
Other than that I don't know.
Leah - thanks that is it!!!! Just looked it up. Yes, I see them around the Potomac River. I will try to take a pic this weekend if I see one - of course they will probably hide now! :-)
Lovely Leah! Yes, this puts a cap to my week and some colour to my day.
Glad to know it, Reb.
Missicat, glad I could help. Good luck with the pics.
Oh, what a gorgeous bluebird. I love bluebirds. And what I think of when I see bluebirds or hear about them is that wonderful poem "Bluebird" by Charles Bukowski. Poignant -- a beautiful bird, and a beautiful poem. The bird makes me smile, and the poem makes me cry.
They really are something, aren't they?
I'm so glad you enjoy seeing them.
I'm not familiar with the poem. I'll look it up.
