These Boots...

... were made for writing.

By popular demand, okay two commenters mentioned it, here are the cowboy boots I bought for writing.

They're Boulet, a Canadian brand, and they're deerhide.

I put them on and let them work their magic on my mind.

They're comfortable. They feel good. When I wear them I scale the dizzying heights of nearly 5'5".

They help me concentrate and think like my characters. One character likes the feel of bare feet in her boots. Good for her. I don't share the opinion, but at least I got a chance to try it and feel it for myself. It's all part of the research and it's important.

I often wonder what else my writing will compel me to do, but learning things and experiencing life are big draws for the job.

I have a very good job.

Those boots are gorgeous! I'm jealous, because I can't wear cowboy boots (my instep is too high, and my toes go to sleep!)

Boulets are wonderful boots, though - the Rancher wears them, too.

Very nice! 5'5" would be a dizzying height for me too...I am a fellow shorty!

df Bag Lady, thanks. I'm so sorry you can't wear them.

Crabby, thanks. They're well worth the investment. It seems to have worked.

df Terrie, thanks. My character is beside herself over them.

Missicat, thanks and lol. It's tough down here sometimes.

Those are really nice! If Dan and I ever get up to Canada, I have a feeling he'll want a pair.

Funny what we'll do for our writing. I once took archery lessons and learned to gut and dress a pig, all for the sake of verisimilitude. (The horseback riding doesn't count, since I would've done it anyway.)

What worries me is if I'm ever profiled based on my web searches. Some of my searches are...offbeat, to say the least.

Bunnygirl, good for you for taking archery lessons. And butchering a hog may come in awfully handy some day.

Oh, yeah, I understand about the web searches. I can explain everything away, but the having to part will be awkward.

If you ever get to Canada I'll go boot shopping with you.

I may just have to find mine and dust them off. Your are very nice, by the way.

Thanks, Reb. It's magic when I pull them on.

Hello Lover of Life, thanks. I strongly recommend you do.

Cowboy boots for writing! That's a new perspective! I used to have a pair that I fit, but, I think my feet have become wider. They don't fit me anymore. I used to love wearing them a lot!

Sorry, Leah! I must have hit the publish twice. Too bad they weren't different comments!

They're a great writing tool, Redbush.
Too bad yours shrank.
Don't worry about the double comment. It's all good.

Oh, what fun! Those are fabulous boots. And that's a really neat idea, stepping into your character's boots.

5'5" would be "dizzying heights" for me, too: I'm only 5'2"!

Thanks, Thomma Lynn. The boots are a great writing assistant.

I'm back! Just wanted to let you know I tagged you for a fun little meme. :)

Lordy, Leah! My breath caught at the sight. I'm a Texan without a pair of proper boots in my closet at the moment! I've been longing and plotting, and my ideal isn't far from the beauties you've got. My heart is full of love! Your writing can only elevate along with your heels.

Leah J. Utas said...

Noooo. Clare2e, a Texan without boots! That's horrible!
That said, I feel as though I've done well if you are looking for some close to mine.
Thanks. They are a writing boost.

Thomma Lynn, meme, huh? I'll be along to check it out.

Hilary, you're welcome. It was my pleasure to put up a pic.

you are I are so alike.
I am finishing a tween manuscript and have 3 different pairs of shoes.
One for each "voice" and character and all entirely different.

THANKS FOR SHARING THIS!

MizFit, thank you for sharing. I like it. It's always good to read what other writers get up to in order to get done.
