Hunkering down with the Gentoos in the Falkland Islands in 2009.
This was my first time seeing penguins in the wild.

Tabor, it was the coolest. I hope you still can someday.

Messymimi, you're welcome. They're loud and they stink and I just love them.

I love that you got so close. The one laying down a bit in front of you is funny.

Bunnygirl, I hope that day comes soon.

Reb, it was great. I must have stumbled on the sacred penguin morning nap ritual.

I love them! Especially how the male protects the eggs.

Nancy, we could learn a lot.

The only penguins I've ever had the pleasure of seeing have been in zoos! Wow, you must have been over the moon! Great pictures.

(They stink, huh?...well, so do lots of other animals that aren't nearly as interesting.)

Each time you post photos of these lovely critters I'm struck by just how special it would be to encounter them in the wild like that. I'm so glad for you that you were able to enjoy them.

Leah J. Utas said...

It truly was, Hilary. The camera does not do them justice.
