Gratitude Monday --The Root of the Matter

I am so very grateful for echinacea. Specifically the e. angustifolia that my husband grew. We dried the roots and make our own capsules as needed.
Lately I've needed.
It's very good for taking out a cold and the like.
While I am in no way offering medical advice I have found that for me it works well. I still have a cold, but it would have been worse.
I hit it with echinacea, cayenne (filled my own capsules) and some commercial garlic capsules that I had around.
I have to be careful with garlic as one of the things it does is make blood platelets slippery. I already take low dose ASA and ginkgo biloba so it's best I watch what I take.
I'm grateful these things exist, that they work, and that I know about them. It makes having a cold almost palatable.
NB The medicinal part of e. angustifolia, as I understand it, is the root.

I'm a garlic fanatic! For health and enjoyment! The problem for me comes when I start making my wife's eyes water at night when she is trying to sleep! I try to keep it under control for her sake! :)

I stumbled across your blog the other day and have enjoyed it! I hope you don't mind if I stop and sit a spell! :)

Just got back from a loving visit with the grandkids and now waiting for their cold to catch in.

David, you're welcome. It's one more weapon in the arsenal.

Carla, thanks so much.

Book Nut, I'm so glad you're here. Please come by anytime and spend as long as you like. I love garlic, too, but it does have its drawbacks.

Tabor, I'm sure the your grandkid loved the visit. If you're expecting a cold get after it now.

I've been taking a little extra Vitamin C lately as a precaution. Of course, now that I've admitted it, I'll catch a whopper of a cold and have to add some echinacea.

Wonderful stuff Nature gives us.
Oil of Oregano is our "favorite"....I can tell when someone is fighting something, this place smells like turkey and stuffing;)

I too enjoy Gratitude Monday's.
Hope you kick the cold completely Leah!

I agree, it is wonderful to know about and have those things.

You might also give a neti pot a try.

One of my friends used to recommend chicken broth with cayenne. Lots of cayenne. It makes a nice hot drink even if you don't have a cold.

Bag Lady, I hope you don't get a cold, but if you do, hit it with all you can.

Dawn, Oil of Oregano never did much for me, but I love its source.

Bossy Betty, you're welcome. I enjoy your visits to me.

Mary Anne, you won't go wrong with chicken soup. Or cayenne.

I usually try the Cold FX, but it renders my arthritis meds useless, so this time I am just using vitamin C. I need all the help I can get to manage the hip pain :( Glad you are feeling better.

Thanks, Reb. Sorry to hear about the nasty hip pain.

Feel better. I'm full of gratitude that some virus hasn't already nailed me this season. I believe in keeping stress levels low to maintain an immune system.

Thanks, Ron. You plan is good.
