Simmering the Cold Away

Turkey Soup. The creamy look is from blenderized potatoes.
Yesterday was soup day. Husband has a cold, I am considering one myself, and I wanted to warm up the house. Soup does that, literally and psychologically.
The carcass went in the pot before 9 a.m. and I let it simmer until mid-afternoon. Good stock takes patience.
We had some leftover boiled potatoes in the fridge. Rather than just chop and toss I decided to sic the immersion blender on them.
I'm glad I did. It made the soup thick and creamy.
Soup is a way to get shed of veggies and whatnot that may be wearing out their welcome. I was able to give a good home to a turnip who ran into a bit of bad luck and wound up in the freezer.
It was mushy and had to be used up quickly, but I think the freezing made it sweeter than it was originally.
The gentle simmer, the soothing, enticing smell, and the knowledge that the evening meal was taken care of helped me write, too.
It was a good day. Even the impending cold didn't seem so bad.

Soup on a cold day is a favorite of mine and we are getting hit with some serious weather at this moment.

Good idea, Leah.

It is time for us to have some soup again...other than leftover turkey soup! I had not thought of freezing a root vegetable on the demise, but now I will.

Stay warm, David. Thanks.

Tabor, I'm all for freezing veggies, but this one got put in the freezer by accident so it wasn't prepared properly.

hmmm - having 'puter troubles this morning. (I did write a comment, but it did not appear, and the pictures still won't load for me. sigh)

Soup sounds wonderful. I might be able to stomach some today - yesterday was not a good day around here!

Sorry to learn you're sick. And sorry about the computer troubles. Dog forbid only one thing should happen at a time.

Delicious! When there is soup on my stove, I always feel a little more "together". Nothing like homemade soup- yours looks delicious.
Now quit contemplating that cold;)

Sounds yummy. I hope it succeeds in warding off your cold and that your husband feels better soon.

During these cold months, I could have soup for every meal, including breakfast.

Soup is most grounding, Dawn. The cold is past the contemplation stage.

Hilary, thanks. It made us feel better.

Ron, I understand.

Ah, my favorite recipe. Whatever is in the fridge/freezer/larder/pantry, cooked slowly with love.

Mmmm, now I have to go get some potatoes and then I can clean up the leeks and broccoli in my fridge. Maybe with the bit of ham that's in the freezer.

Messymimi, that's the best soup.

Reb, that sounds really good.
