Gratitude Monday - A Proper Good-Bye

John Noble and Jasika Nicole, Calgary 2012.

Fringe ended Friday. While I am not the least bit grateful it is gone, I am grateful for the way it went.

It was an emotionally satisfying end.
Stuff got taken care of in the sense that several characters had their moment, their chance to wave good-bye to us. In her own way, even the cow had a moment.
A few of those moments were so touching, so heartfelt, they brought a tear to my eye. Even now when I think of them the effect lingers.
It's the mark of good show that it stirs emotions without resorting to cheap manipulation.
Fringe never did.

Walter Bishop became my favourite character on any television show ever.
I told him so and thanked him for it when I met him briefly at ComicCon in Calgary last spring.
I am grateful for the show, and I am grateful it had the sense to go out on a high note.

We do get attached to these performers and their characters.

I've loved Fringe right from the get go. Walter quickly became my favorite character because I also remembered him from one of my favorite movies and he played "crazy" then too. :) I really envy you Leah, I wished I could've met them too. Goodbye to an amazing show and I will definately be watching you again and again on dvd! :)

Bag Lady, were you a fan or do you mean you simply didn't watch the show?

Ah, June, me, too. The pilot was great, but it was Walter's engaging character that truly sold it.
I've got all four seasons and am a few shows in to season four. I'd watch this series over and over. Bits of the finale will stay with me for a great long time.

Oh I HATE saying goodbye to favorite shows! And all too often the stuff I love gets cancelled quickly.

But how cool that you got to meet the actor who plays your favorite character, that's indeed something to be grateful for!

Sorry my comment was unclear. I did not watch the show (hadn't even really heard of it until recently) - never saw an episode.

I am sad that it ended, but, like you, I am glad they did it properly. Walter was a lovely character and I was happy to see the cow once more too.
