Pussy-toes and Prickly Rose

The flowers were in full bloom on the weekend for our mountain hike.

These are pussy-toes (Antennaria parvifolia) we found growing along the mountain path.

The prickly rose (Rosa acicularis) and western wood lily (Lilium phildelphicum) were found growing near the trail head. They seemed happy together.

I call them tiger lilies because that’s how they’re commonly known, but Mr. Goat’s Lunch Pail has degrees in forestry and botany and I promised him I’d make things right with the flowers.

Lovely pictures!

(But I'm not really here today).

Hello Talia, thanks for stopping by.
What's your favourite flower now?

Thanks, Crabby. Kind of you to stop in when you're not really here.

Oh my. The flowers are lovely, Leah, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I was disappointed initially that you hadn't posted pictures of actual pussy toes. My late BYF kitty had the lovliest floofy toes with tufts of fur in between. I miss those toes and the kitty they belonged to mightily. :(

Thanks for sharing the flowers. I do appreciate them very much. Especially the wild roses and lily.

As Talia said, the orange tiger lilies grow very freely in NZ. I haven't heard of the pussy-toes but we have roses but not that variety. Roses are not native to NZ and most of ours were bought in from England in the early days. Now, we have world famous rose breeders. That's the extent of my horticulture knowledge! Looks a lovely place to hike.

Virginia Lee, I'm sorry to disappoint you by not having actual feline feet to show off. I'm glad you liked the flowers.

Thanks for the info on roses in NZ, Dawn. It is a lovely place to hike. Shallow mountain stream crossing near the trail head and the main route is packed horse trail. We took a side branch this time and found lovely scenes.
