The dark areas are where he filled in the natural cracks in the wood using
glue and sawdust. Then he started to drill out the mouth.
The round hole is for measuring to determine how much to take out where so he has enough material for proper teeth.

Mike worked between one and two hours a day on it unless he was called to his day job.
