Furry Critters in Kananaskis

We took a day trip south to Kananaskis on Sunday. So did thousands of others as it was the Heritage Day long weekend. That aside it was a good day. I did a bit of hiking and we stopped and looked at assorted places along Highway 40, a. k.a. The Kananskis Trail.

We saw some wildlife mostly of the small, furry variety. At Mt. Lorette Ponds we saw this little fellow. We tried to get some photos, but being an Action Chippy he wasn't much for posing.

We'd hoped to see pikas at the Rock Glacier, but instead we found several golden-mantled groundsquirrels. This one was curious about us.

While this one was more Sphinx-like in its outlook.

Adorable little furry critters! Glad you had a good hike, even if there were tons of people there!

dfBag Lady, thanks. Chippy was very cute and I do like the groundsquirrels. Too bad we missed out on the pikas. We could hear them, but nobody showed.

Good job grabbing the chipmunk! We have so many around here, but I never have the camera ready and in super-fast "sports mode" so I can snap them. Quick trigger finger there, pardner.

Thanks, Clare2e. Those little guys sure go.

We saw a squirrel on a hike that had a striped white and black face. Very fancy squirrel.

Oh, my, Nancy. It sounds quite stylish.

fieldtrip!

will you lead tours if I drag the no-longer-toddler-I-guess-she's-a-preschooler your way?

Carla, that would be a riot. Of course I would.

Oh, I love your pictures of the zippy chippy and the squirrels! How adorable. It can sure be tough to photograph small, fast moving wild critters! And it looks like it was a wonderful hike.

Ground squirrels are my favourites with their stripes. These quick moving ones aren't probably fed by people like the squirrels in Toronto are.

Thomma Lyn, thanks. Zippy chippy ( love that!) always presents a challenge. The groundsquirrels are much more calm. The walkies were wonderful. It's so good to get out and about, especially in the mountains.

Barbara, I get a kick out of all of them. It's nice to have chippy and groundsquirrels together to see their similarities.
So what are the squirrels fed?
