The Other Other White Meat

I've recently gone back to eating pork after years of listening to my MIL insist to her alternative therapy clinic clients that it's too much like human.
I presume she meant it in the sense that pig bits can be used to replace human tissue , but it bothered me so much that I went off pork for years. I still ate ham and bacon, but I couldn't manage the uncured stuff.
But now that I can enjoy the other white meat I find the marketers aren't keen to let us know about the other other white meat.

Lawyers for the (American) National Pork Board sent a 12 page cease and desist order to ThinkGeek over its canned unicorn meat slogan
Suggested Unicorn recipe here.

Yes, it's old news, an April Fool's joke, but I was really looking forward to some canned unicorn meat this winter.
And let the record show the porkers were only protecting their trademark, as well they should.
But dang, now I really want some unicorn.

Hilary at  The Smitten Image gave me this for my Friday post and I'm tickled silly over it.
Thank you, Hilary.

Mmmmm, unicorn. Wouldn't it be great to go to school/work and say you have a unicorn sandwich for lunch.

Thanks, Travis.

Laurita, it's the dream.

Thanks for the laugh, cousin!
Now I'm wishing I could try unicorn, too.

And congratulations on your POTW award.

My pleasure, Cousin. And thanks.

LOL.. just as well. You'd probably spend the rest of the day picking the sparkles out of your teeth. ;)

Oh...yeah... you're right. Really dodged a bullet there, Hilary. A sparkly, sparkly bullet.

But what about what they say in Harry Potter? It seems to me that eating unicorn flesh would be as bad as drinking unicorn blood. *blink*

As to pork eating, we almost never have it. Our bacon and sausages are made of turkey. Occasionally I'll splurge and get 'real' bacon, but only like once a year. I do admit to buying a pre-cooked pork roast at the store last night on sale. When I checked the fat and sodium content, it was markedly lower than the beef. So there ya go.

FWIW, I'm still aiming to go vegetarian. It's tricky, though, since I can't have soy. :/

Congrats on the Post of the Week, you have hit the big time!

Oh, and according to the Fairy Calendar, it is Unicorn Questing Season. Remember, though, that it is very bad juju to kill one, you are just supposed to find it, net it, and make it grant you a wish.

Congrats on the award!

I don't eat pork, either, not since I heard they have the intelligence of a two-year-old. Not sure it's true, but enough to put me off. Now I have turkey bacon.

Congrats on the POTW! I thought that Unicorns magically decomposed upon death into dewdrops or something exciting like that. That recipe sounds good though...do you suppose it would taste like pork?

Why VL, where's your sense of adventure? *Blinks right back*

I have turkey bacon and sausage, too. I have real bacon for making beans from scratch. That's only a few times a year. And the bacon weave, of course, but that was only once. Best of for the vegetarian turn. I know you'll find a way.

Thanks, Nancy. It's tough to eat something that we know to be intelligent.

Well, Reb, it is the other other white meat.
