Gratitude Monday - Computer

I'm happy to have a computer.
I write with it and store my photos on it.
With it and an internet connection I can visit instantly, see what's going on in the world, and walk away when I want without being impolite.
For all of this I am grateful.

A computer screen and a disembodied hand on a mouse. That's all it takes to keep in touch. And a herd of overworked hamsters somewhere making it all happen.

Gratitude Monday -- How 'bout those Interchoobs?

Late on a July evening in Elk Island National Park
The Internet.
I am grateful for it.
Most of the reasons are obvious. It makes communication fast and easy.  I can put my opinion and pictures out for public consumption and get near instant feedback.
It allows me to have conversations without having to go out in the world, and it gives me the chance to think before I write.
Not that I always do it, of course, but I have the opportunity.
I'm looking for a literary agent now. The search is easier from home on the computer as there's information available about who is good vs. who is a scammer.
With Internet comes email. Many agents accept email queries which saves time, money, and trees.
It can also be a huge time-sucking waste, but we have the option of walking away.
Whatever else it is, it makes navigating through huge reed patches of information, misinformation, and disinformation that much easier.

Gratitude Monday – Thank You, Internet

I’m grateful to live in an age where contact is so easy. We may grumble about computers, curse them out and threaten them with defenestration, but they are a powerful tool and they make life easier in so many ways.

I’ve started doing some freelance work, another thing for which I am deeply thankful, and using the Internet has made finding my interview subjects for two possible stories easier. Two have long moved away while a third never lived here. She made the news by being lost out in the bush 15 years ago.

Simple Google searches found them. It took mere seconds. The finding part took mere seconds. The forming- the- thought- to- do- it- that- way part took somewhat longer. I still got there, though, so I’m grateful for that, too.
