Gratitude Monday --Golden Guest

I was busy at the computer yesterday when a flash of bright yellow outside the window caught my eye.
This goldfinch had perched on the cross piece of a pole we have outside and was sunning himself.
He got a bit more lively when I got my camera.

He looked straight at me as I clicked away.

He groomed a bit and posed some more and turned around a few times.

He looks quite pensive here.

I'm grateful for the visits from the birds and especially grateful this fellow perched close and posed for me.
The soft focus look is not intentional. I had to shoot through two door windows to not disturb him.

Pussycat Dinner Theatre

We had a guest in the front yard last night. A neighbourhood pussycat found the perfect spot, warm yet shaded.

The great seating came with a live show and the possibility of dinner.
Here neighbour puss feigns disinterest as a goldfinch gorges itself.

 Interest piqued, but target gone.

I was going to refill the feeders, but decided to wait for kitty to give up and go home.

Gratitude Monday - Still Useful

As the summer draws to a close and our local world prepares to shut down for the season of cold sleep we might think that winter and it's slice of death is ugly.
No, it isn't. It's a time of rest and rejuventation for plants and animals and a time for the introspective among us to quieten down and look inside.
It's easy to dismiss dead branches and a blanket of snow as being worthless, but if you look at the photo you'll find the goldfinch uses the tree as a lookout as it waits for a chance to get to the feeder.
What's dead to us is a useful lookout, a meeting place, and a home for assorted critters that birds such as woodpeckers feast on.
Dead? Yes. Useless? No.
I'm sure this goldfinch is grateful for the chance to perch a moment to make sure it is safe to feed and I'm equally sure that the woodpeckers who'll be around later on this season are looking forward to their meals in these branches.
This tree still serves a purpose, death has changed the purpose, but it is still useful.
It's not a perspective all that many of us have. I'm grateful I have it.

Goldfinch Abundance

Assessing the situation.

Taking action.

Gluttony.

Realizing the horror of what he'd become.

My husband took these pictures of a male goldfinch at our kitchen feeder.
The reflection in the last one makes it seem as homage to Hitchcock and Poe.
**
Did your write yourself an abundance cheque this month?
The new moon was at 1:23 p.m. yesterday in my neck of the woods. There's a 24 hour window to get the cheque written. If you forget, then simply write it as soon as you remember and get back on track next month.
If you've never done it or you need a refresher here's what to do :
Take a cheque or draw one on a blank piece of paper. The Universe will honour it either way.
Ignore the date.
Make it out to yourself.
Write "Paid In Full" in the amount box and amount line.
Sign it "Law of Abundance."
Put it away.
