Oooohh, Canada

Another federal election is behind us.
Let's take a quiet moment and reflect on what we've done.
Have we turned a corner, or simply gone 'round the bend?

ETA: We've got another Conservative minority, but a fatter one than last time. Harper has 144 seats, but needed 155 for a majority.
Conservatives have to bamboozle, seduce, and/or browbeat only nine other MPs in order to have their way with us.
We really haven't turned any corners, but neither have we gone around any bends.
It's business as usual until Harper smells more blood and figures out a way to dissolve the government and have another election before his four-year due date.

This was such a colossal waste of money..... but isn't that what our beloved government seems to be all about nowadays? Wasting money?

Wasting money is what just about all governments do best!
Less then three weeks...getting nervous.......

That's right, Missicat.
I wish you well in your upcoming election.

For all the good it did, I cast my vote. What makes me sick, is our local conservative won his seat again, after having outright lied and deceived his constituents (last term), as well as having given a speech (this time) as though they were idiots. Well, I guess he was right.

Oh, my. How unpleasant. Who is it?

df Leah,

These are difficult times, so voting is more important than ever. Seems like you guys are pretty good at making sure Harper doesn't quite get what he wants.

He'll still have to struggle to pass legislation--always a good thing.

We're up next. I am working hard to see that my choice gets into office. Elections are very invigorating, because if only for a fleeting moment the average citizen gets a chance to push in the direction of his/her values and ideas.

dfTerrie - Minority governments are healthy for democracy although they do lead to instability.
We're probably okay for at least a year, but really, anything can happen.
Good for you for getting involved. I wish you the best in getting your choice in office.

Must be something in the air. New Zealand has elections in under a month.

New Zealand, too. Oh my. Best of luck in that, Dawn. I hope the best candidate wins.
