Gratitude Monday – Flat on the Flats Edition
We went for drive out west the other day. It was a beautiful Saturday. We cobbled together some lunch, filled a water jug, and went on our merry way on a 70 mile drive toward a spot out west called Ram Falls.
But we never arrived.
We were about 40 miles or so out driving through a lovely area through which Radiance Creek flows. Horses grazed on the east side of the road, but far enough away to be unconcerned by our trespass on their day.
I’d never seen horses there and have no idea if they’re tame ones left to pasture or transplants from a herd that roams free in Ya-Ha-Tinda 60 or so miles to the south.
We were enjoying the day. We pulled into a fish pond, a reclaimed gravel pit, for a pit stop when we saw we had a flat tire.
It was fresh, still hissing. We could see it deflate before our very eyes.
So my husband reinflated it enough to get us back to the approach where it was dry and then changed the tire. We went straight back to town.
It was still a good drive. It was a lovely day and really quite pleasant.
I’m glad he was there to do the work and I’m glad there was little traffic.
And if you must have a flat tire, is there a better spot?

II may have an inflated (rimshot?) notion of the lovliness and calm and BEAUTY which is the area where you live---but I entirely envision it as a retreat.
an oasis.
I also adore these sentences:
It was fresh, still hissing. We could see it deflate before our very eyes.
they describe your tire.
they describe PERFECTLY some days Ive had as well.
Great attitude about it!
There are two ways you can go when the unexpected inconvenience comes along, and it sure is a more pleasant experience when you can find something good about it rather than just complain.
A lesson I'm still trying to learn...
All in all that sounds like as good as a flat tire ever gets.
MizFit your inflated (nice one!) notion is about right.
I hope those days are hissing in a good way.
Crabby, it's a challenge some days to find the good. Saturday was a lovely day to be outside.
Travis, as flats go this wasn't bad.
There are far worse places (and ways, and times, and seasons) to have a flat tire!
And it's always good to have someone else who can change the tire. I mean, I know you could have done it (as most of us can), it's just nice not to HAVE to! :)
You've got that right, df Bag Lady.
df Leah,
You truly see the rainbow in the rain!
Terrie
You always have such a positive outlook. That day was its own adventure. But you still have snow?
I not only liked MizFit's "inflated" comment but her "rim"shot too. ;)
df Terrie, thanks. I do as I can.
It surely was, Hilary. The Forestry Trunk Road is surrounded by mountains. There'll be snow about for quite some time.
--dang I didn't catch "rim shot" until just now--
There are far worse ways to spend the day than with good company in pretty country. Flat or no flat.
I can't think of any place better to have a flat. Glad it was a nice day.
You're so right, Bunnygirl.
Reb, in its own way it was relaxing.
So glad you stopped when you did, I'm sure! I only had a flat tire once in my life when I was on my own. I was going to work, wearing a dress, and the traffic must have all been too busy to stop, or didn't think I needed it, or just maybe they got a kick out of someone with a dress on trying to undo the nuts. They were put on with a machine, so had to just keep trying until a tourist stopped to help me! I was never so glad to see anyone before! It was becoming embarrassing!
Redbush, that's a good (entertaining) story. I'm not that strong. It would be quite a sight watching me trying to loosen the nuts.
*grin*, that sounds like a great place to have a flat tire! You have a wonderful, positive, and wise, attitude, always looking for the good in every experience.
Thanks, Thomma Lynn. It has its challenges, but I honestly believe things have some good. It can be cleverly disguised.
No. My poor husband had to change one in a parking lot the other day. Lovely country.
