By Taxi In Camaguey

By bicitaxi in Camaguey. And yes, Che is everywhere.

Transportation runs the gamut in the Cuba. We saw 1950s American cars, Ladas and Russian army trucks, horsecarts, oxcarts, bicycles, and the above bicitaxi.
This is a bicycle that's been modified and made similar to a rickshaw. The seat is attached to the back of the bike and the only power is the guy pumping the pedals.
It's a great way to see the sights and it's a fun ride.
It was fairly cheap, too, as I think it worked out to 2.50 CUC per person.
Our guide hired bicitaxis for the group one morning for a city tour. We rode for close to two hours although we had plenty of stops and even walked a bit.
For as much as I enjoyed it I could not help but feel sorry for the drivers. It's healthy work and a good honest living, but it can't be easy.

What a great way to see the city! But you're right - I would have felt sorry for the drivers, too. (especially if they had to tote MY lardass around!)

It was relaxing, df Bag Lady, and gives a different perspective from the bus.

Yeah, that's gotta be a hard way to make a living. Amazingly, in all my travels, I've never taken one.

David, it's worth doing for the experience.

I've never had the opportunity to tour in this way, but it has always looked like fun.

Maybe someday, and with a huge tip for the driver.

it is, Messymimi. And I suspect you can never overtip one of these drivers.

Love the red sunset! It looks like a fun way to go, but I think you are right, you can't over tip these guys.

Thanks, Reb. Glad you like the new pic. It's a great way to see the sights.

It sure would be a tough gig but what a great way to get around. I'm enjoying your photos. I know I'll never see any from my son's trip. He bought himself a nice camera a couple of years back and has scarcely used it. I'm having him tested genetically. ;)

Love your gorgeous header!

Hilary, I'm glad you're enjoying my pics. I wonder sometimes about filling the posts with them, but you've given me incentive to keep at it.
Glad you like the header. It's one of my fave Cuba pics, and one of my faves ever.
