"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
-Hamlet, Act One, Scene Five
This above all: to thine ownself be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.” - (again with the Hamlet)
Cannon fire at sunset signals the sealing of the harbor near Santiago de Cuba. Castillo de San Pedro del Morro sits in dramatic splendor on the cliffs at Santiago Bay. Each night soldiers in period costume fire the cannon.
What a cool shot!! Now I have this visual of 1,000s of cannonballs in a pile at the harbor bottom. Hopefully they change the angle and the amount of shot every once in a while.

That's a cinematic locale. I wouldn't mind being there for the firing of the cannon.
David, it is wonderful to behold. We hoisted a Cube Libre afterward.
Way cool!!
What a lovely spot. And that sounds like a terrific way to end the day. Cannon fire and Cube Libre - who could ask for anything more?

I love these photos. I've had my mini vaca with them today. Thanks you.
Mary
I do so enjoy watching traditional ceremonies like that.
df Bag Lady, it was an amazing experience.
Thanks, Conny. I hope so, too. This has been going on for a few centuries now, I believe.
So glad you're enjoying it, Mary.
Messymimi, it was moving in its own way.
Great shot, Leah. I guess the locals get quite used to hearing the nightly firing.
Thanks, Hilary. I suppose if you've grown up with it you may not even pay attention anymore.
