Extracting Fun in the Rain
It's been raining most of the day and that's great for writing. It can also make for some interesting pictures. I was enchanted by the droplets of rain clinging to the mountain mahonia leaves out my writing window and thought they'd be a good way to show the weather.
It also seemed like a good time to play with some of the settings on my Pentax K20, the bulk of which scare me.
This is the color extraction setting. I found I really liked the effect.
What does the effect do for you?

I find black and white photography can be extremely evocative - strangely more "realistic." But then I'm color blind, so what am I saying... Anyway, loved this pic and miss the rain.
Thanks, Ron. I understand and agree. So much can be done with B&W. I'd forgotten how much I missed it until today when I realized the setting was available on my camera.
I wish I could help you out with the rain.
This is a great photo. I love it.
Mary
Thanks, Mary. It's fun to play.
It's beautiful, and I especially like the hint of red.
Oh, that is lovely! I imagine much easier than trying to get the same effect in Gimp or Photoshop (I've tried, it's hard).
Thank you, Bunnygirl. The red does set it off nicely.
Thank you. Photoshop and the like is beyond me and I know naught of Gimp, Reb. This is push-a-button easy and it's fun. I sniffed around and discovered the Olympus does much the same. Not as much choice for coloring, but plenty of other stuff to keep me playing.
I LOVE that effect! It's beautiful. Wow...
Thank you, Cheryl.
A perfectly lovely photo that evokes the rain I so miss in my drought ridden county. I am more of an incompetent with the camera but better at post-processing with the PC.
I love that photo! The hint of red is the perfect touch.
I've been meaning to say, too, that I love the new header photo.
Tabor, thanks. I've tried to play with the computer programs for this and I am at a loss. Maybe someday, but for now I'm tickled silly to be able to do this on the camera.
Bag Lady, thanks. I think it's the red that sells it. Glad you like the header.
It makes me want to sit at that window, watch the droplets gather and fall, and spin stories.
Lovely shot. I am a sucker for 1) B and W 2) leaves and 3) raindrops.
Messymimi, I'm right beside you on this.
Bossy Betty, thanks. I see I hit a triple with you.
It wowed me. I love the subtle hint of red meandering through the image. Nicely done, Leah.
Hilary, I'm so glad you like it.
