Gratitude Monday - Computer

I'm happy to have a computer.
I write with it and store my photos on it.
With it and an internet connection I can visit instantly, see what's going on in the world, and walk away when I want without being impolite.
For all of this I am grateful.

A computer screen and a disembodied hand on a mouse. That's all it takes to keep in touch. And a herd of overworked hamsters somewhere making it all happen.

Here here! So many demonize the PC as being anti-social when in my mind it's a great way to bring people together. (And since it's a long walk to Canada from my house I appreciate that!)

Crabby, thanks for that. It may give an excuse to avoid face to face contact, but for those who avoid it anyway a computer offers a way of socializing.

I agree. It is a wonderful tool for keeping in touch with far-flung friends and relatives!

I remember my mother saying, when I got my first computer in 1992 (two years before I had an internet connection) "But you've got an electric typewriter; why do you need a computer?" I had already fallen in love with computers in library school, and I answered "Think of it as a typewriter with a filing cabinet inside," and I saw a light go on in her eyes. Nowadays it has the whole world inside. [slurpppp]

My two closest friends live several hundred miles from me. Enough said.

Mary Anne in Kentucky
(and the WV is "conexte": connection in context)

It really IS amazing, isn't it? Thanks for reminding us!

It sure is, Cousin.

Mary Anne, I never thought of it that way, but you're right.

My pleasure, Betty.

Well said, and you've given me an idea to write about, thank you.

Thanks, Messymimi. Glad to be of service.

I can't imagine more than a couple of weeks without it. I share you gratitude.

Hilary, I feel so lost when the Internet isn't working at home. I'm okay being away.

It certainly is a wondrous machine. I can't imagine having to go without one, now that I've had one.

Leah J. Utas said...

Reb, it would be one hell of an adjustment, wouldn't it?

I am grateful for it too. The only regret I have is the "disembodied" people in "real life". I miss my "alive people".....

Dawn, I'm sure they're out there somewhere.
