Gratitude Monday - A Day Like Any Other

Much as I like a bit of excitement, doing something different, having new experiences, there's a lot to be said for routine.
There's good routine, the day to day activities of regular life.  I am grateful for them. They bring stability, order, and peace to life.
They get me through the day and are excellent marker posts for days when the interesting stuff happens.
Each day I get up, get out of bed, pour a partial cup of coffee, and go outside.
I drink this first bit of coffee outdoors.  I greet the sky, the day, feel how it is, gaze at the stars if they're out, or the morning sun if it's summertime.
It is a simple thing, a daily pleasure that lays the groundwork for the day, and for it I am grateful.

This morning it was the moon, almost full, covered softly with wisps of cloud, shining down on the frost. Lovely.
I, too, am grateful for routine, punctuated occasionally by excitement.

I laughed when I scrolled down to where you describe your coffee routine, because my coffee routine was the first thing I thought of when I read the title. Mine is different from yours--even in the best weather I never drink the first cup outdoors, and only rarely the second. Outdoor coffee drinking is for later, on days off, and never, on work days. And checking blogs is a part of my coffee routine. ;) For that I am grateful.

I should have a more zenful routine, but once hubby turns on CNN it is hard to get into a Zen moment.

Sounds like a lovely routine! Coffee figures highly in my morning routine as well. Ah, coffee, definitely something to feel grateful for.

That's what I'm missing.. the ease of stepping outside when my day has begun. It's not quite the same in an apartment (sans balcony) but it might just be a good idea anyway. Thanks for this, Leah.

Lovely description, Bag Lady. Makes me miss the farm more than usual.

Mary Anne, whatever works for you is the best.

Tabor, I understand. I must have quiet in the morning.

Crabby, oh, yeah.

Hilary, perhaps snuggling up to an open window will help. You're welcome.

Routine is the scaffold on which to build days, a way to catch the time.

This sounds like a wonderful exercise, though I have had coffee at mid-morning outside. The first energy of the day is being released: quiet, relaxed, only moving if there is a breeze and expanding as the sun warms it.

So very true, Messymimi.

Meeting the day early is wonderful, Barbara.
