It was organized by the Beaverhill Bird Observatory east of Edmonton. We were fed steaks and then ornithologists captured, banded, weighed, and measured Northern Saw-whet owls for tracking.
Attendees got to watch, learn, ask questions, pet the saw-whets, and help set them free afterward.
I got to release an owl. |

Oh, what a delight! The owl seems so calm and almost cat-like.
As usual with your gratitude Mondays, I am grateful to you for sharing.

That is SO cool!! Glad you got to enjoy this experience. Love the picture of you with the owl.
The owls were mostly calm, Mary Anne. Occasionally one would get upset with the procedures and click its beak.
Bag Lady, it was magnificent. Releasing the owl was the best.
Such a fun and lovely thing to do! Owls are delightful birds.
Oh what a wonderful experience for you. And I was thinking the same as Mary Anne.. very catlike.
It was the best, Messymimi.
They are quite catlike, Hilary. Their fluff is soft and furry.
I would love to see something like this. Owls are so charismatic with those big soulful eyes.
I hope you get the chance, Tabor.
