Exploring

A bug goes about its business on a blooming buckbean.

It's good to stop and look. All manner of life happens under our feet, under our noses, and usually under our radar.
We're so swept up in what we see in front of us that we forget to look down and around.
Life goes on around us no matter what takes up our time or what we think is important.
I try to take a few moments out of the day to rest and really see what is happening around me. A walk out at one of the local lakes, such as where this was taken, is a good way to do it. So is weeding the garden, or for that matter, sweeping the floor.
Be in the moment and see what it has to offer.

Blooming Buckbean

Buckbean

This is one of my favourite plants. It grows in wetlands and looks so very happy. I found this buckbean along a boardwalk at Twin Lakes. The boardwalk goes out over a wet area to some raised ground. This outcropping has some benches and trees and on the side opposite the boardwalk there's a floating dock.
It's a fine spot to visit on a warm day. It has pleasant energy, it's a good thinking spot, and if nothing else one can sit and watch the fish jump.
In a good year there are frogs in the wetland, many more plants, and water that comes up over the boardwalk to tease your feet as you walk. Not this year.
I hardly saw any buckbean and even less of the other plants. But there were some and I spent a wonderful half-hour or so sitting near the trees getting my head clear and refreshed for writing. It's a good way to spend the time.

Mountains and Marshes --Happy Birthday Canada

It's July 1st and that means it's Canada's birthday. If you're curious, but too polite to ask her age, she's 141 today.

Here's a view of a magnificent mountain scene. It's looking west on the David Thompson Highway from Abraham Lake.

This is a buckbean in flower and reflected in the wetland on the shore of Twin Lakes.

Another view of the buckbean because I really like this picture.

Canada is known for its mountains and the unspoiled beauty of nature.
This is why.

Happy Canada Day.
