Scenes From The Feeders

Coming in.

Busy place.

Goldfinches took over the boat feeder.

Until the pine siskins found it.

The young birds are out and about and feeding now. The swarm feedings have started and will continue for a few more weeks, then they'll be gone for the winter.

Lovely! We don't see goldfinches here very often. There was one (I think that's what it was) at Mother's birthday celebration, but I couldn't get it on film, in spite of my best efforts.
You're lucky that they come to your feeder.

Yes, we're quite blessed.
We have several male goldfinches, maybe five, this year and they often feed together.
It's only a mini-horde this year. In past years we've had several dozen swoop in several times a day.

Beautiful photos Leah! I like how the closest Goldfinch on the boat feeder is looking directly at you with the seed in his mouth! It is almost like he is thinking "damn photographers - always catch me with my mouth full!"

Reb. I think that's exactly what he's thinking.

Oh, what beautiful pictures. I just love the goldfinches. How lovely to have well-trafficked bird feeders! :)

Thanks, Thomma Lynn. We're very happy the goldfinches, and everybody else, stops by.

Hmmm stop by

Wow, those goldfinches are so vivid! We've got a lot of cool birds here on the east coast that we never had in California, but alas, we don't know the names for anything.

Great shots!

Thanks, Crabby. Goldfinches perk up my day something fierce.

Wonderful shots of the goldfinches, Leah. We have seen hundreds of them this year.. unusual compared to past years when I see maybe a half dozen throughout the full summer. I've never successfully photographed one though.. at least not clearly. They never seem to sit still long enough for me. Well done!

Thanks, Hilary. Let them get used to you. They're awfully skittish early in the season, but they do calm down a bit after they've been fed for a few weeks.
