Talk About Gall

This tree has some character. It makes me think of magical forests and I fully expected to see a gnome or small mythological beastie pop its head around from behind it as I took the photo.

Sadly, what the tree has is gall. Something like an insect, bacteria, injury or what-have-you attacked it and changed its hormones.

It's interesting how the growth is almost a perfect sphere. I didn't realize it was a disease that made some trees look like that.

So this makes the Bag Lady wonder -when we humans have a bloated stomach, it's gall?!
Cool photo, dfLeah...those boles make really great tables, too.

Did you look really carefully? Those doors are well hidden.

Great photo and thanks for the information - I didn't know that.

Oh, poor tree. Very cute though... and is that an elf I see exiting from one of those doors?

Hope it's not a fatal affliction, it really does look like a tree with a lot of character.

Hey, the Bag Lady just looked a little more closely at that photo. She didn't see any elves, but there's a pile of elf poo over to the right...

I should have looked closer,Reb.
I'd forgotten how crafty the Wee Folk are about their doors.

I like your thinking, Bag Lady. It's not bloat, it's gall.

Bunnygirl - It was the spherical shape that really attracted me to it.

It wouldn't surprise me if you saw an elf there, Crabby.

What a magical picture - but sad too.
