Gratitude Monday --Mountain Feasts Edition

Jasper and Banff National Parks are a short, easy drive from my home in Rocky Mountain House.

Highway 11, a.k.a. The David Thompson Highway, passes through Rocky on its way to join Highway 93, a.k.a. the Columbia Icefields Parkway.
The parkway is the portion of Highway 93 through the two parks beginning at Jasper townsite and ending at the Trans-Canada near Lake Louise.
It's about a two hour drive west from my house to Saskatchewan Crossing. That's where #11 meets #93.
The mountains begin about an hour west of Rocky.
It's fairly easy to go out for a hike, or a drive.  I am so grateful I get to live here and that we have enough sense to get out and enjoy the mountains as we can.
This year we've been picnicking, too.
They are simple affairs: gluten free bread or crackers, cheese, sausage, water, Coca-Cola, but with the sight of the mountains and the spicing of the fresh air, they are feasts.

This photo taken by Mike on Saturday is at a scenic stop just south of Saskatchewan Crossing in Banff National Park.

My Rocky Mountain House Anniversary

The Bighorn Highway in autumn.
Today marks 23 years since I moved to Rocky Mountain House.
I moved here for work. It was a good move as I met my husband here and stayed.
Every place has its faults. We can spend all day complaining about what is wrong, or we can flip it over and tickle its tummy. When we do that we realize something important that we may not have considered earlier.
For all the bad things people can say about where they live it must be noted that we are where we are due to our choices.
I made good choices.

Random Acts of Autumn

Welcome to Autumn in the West Country.

Please come through with me.

A fine rhubarb crop rests on my altar.

Four hills of potatoes from my little garden gave me this.

A guest in the yard enjoys a bit of cool in the late afternoon heat.

Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your visit.

Here's a typical scene from the farming area south of Rocky.
It's as good a way as any to top off the week.

Monday Gratitude - Grateful For Twenty Years Here

I've lived here for 20 years as of yesterday and my first day at the Mountaineer newspaper was 20 years ago today.
I have a great deal to be grateful for and the best way to show it is pictures.
I hope you enjoy the sights as much as I do.

Score! Another Anniversary

I moved to Rocky 20 years ago today.
For the past two decades the mountain scene in this photo, or some version thereof, has been a common sight.
I'll post about this again, but for now I simply wanted to mark the day where I moved into my current life.

Gratitude Monday- The Bottom of Main Street

Rocky Mountain House is really quite scenic. I'm grateful to live in a town where I can see the mountains from almost anywhere. These pictures were taken at the bottom of Main Street looking west and/or southwest.
The first is looking southwest.
Please enlarge all pics to get the full effect.

The newspaper office where I worked is just a wee bit up the street from the little park in the foreground. The editor's office has a great view very similar to this. This is to the west.

Looking southwest again. That's the post office and a liquor store in the same building. How can you not love a town where you can get stinko and mail a letter from one convenient location?

Happy week, everyone.
