The Blue Canadian Rockies run through Clearwater County, the rural area around Rocky Mountain House.
When we go for drives out west we get to see sights like this.
I've seen them many times.
I've seen their many moods.
I hope to see them many times again.

Gratitude Monday -- Reflective Edition

Waterfowl Lake, Banff National Park

Still lakes in the early morning offer grand reflections of their surroundings. On Saturday we were up and away early enough to catch this sight on Waterfowl Lake.

It's moments like this that make me as reflective as the still waters. I am grateful for many things, including how close I live to the Jasper-Banff Highway.
This road, also known as the Columbia Icefields Parkway, runs through Jasper and Banff National Parks and offers the most stunning mountain scenery in the world. I can be in Jasper, Banff, or Lake Louise in a few hours, or I can drive along the highway for the sheer joy of seeing the sights and still be home in the evening.

A beautiful summer's day in Alberta.

Early Springtime in the Rockies

Spring in the Rockies. The North Saskatchewan River is open and flowing while the land remains cold and dry. Snow huddles in the shade hanging on as long as it can and mountains rise from the plain to greet the returning warmth of the sun.

Whirlpool Point

This is called Whirlpool Point. It's along the David Thompson Highway (aka Highway 11) and it's where the North Saskatchwan River makes a whirlpool. Whirlpool Point is close to the Banff Park gate and almost a two-hour drive west of Rocky Mountain House.
I've lived here for 21 years now and it never ceases to give me a thrill to know this scenery is in my back yard.
What I can get to in an easy drive some people might only see once in their lives. I am aware every day how blessed I am to live here.

In Protest

It's finally here.

It's been snowing and it's all very fluffy and wonderful.

The temperatures are cold and normal and all is right with the world. It makes me happy.

There'll be other times for pictures of snow and cold.

Today, as a gesture of protest against the icy oppression of normality, I give you the above.

It's another peek at Abraham Lake from out west of Rocky about a half-hour from the Banff National Park gate.

A Warm Reminder

High summer in the blue Canadian Rockies.

Summer's are short enough here, and they seem even shorter in the mountains.
Last week I noticed some fresh snow on the first peaks out west. It's not here yet, but it will be soon enough.

I write better when it's cold and dark so I am looking forward to that part of it. For now, I wanted to put up a warm summer photo to remember the living season by.

Springtime In The Rockies

This is the high point of the hike to Siffleur Falls looking back through the valley.
We've had so much snow and bitter cold I felt the need to be reminded that it's spring and warm temperatures will return. New life will come with it.

Even in the majestic Rockies the sky is huge and the road goes on forever.
