Gratitude Monday - Magnificent Moment Edition

Clicking to enlarge is strongly recommended.

The Bald Eagle is a majestic and dynamic bird. They are scarce here and a reasonably rare sight.
We were very blessed on our Christmas drive to see five of them. Four were gathered by a creek and then this lone one was in a tree near a subdivision.
The eagle stayed in the tree as I approached though it grew restless. Eventually I got too close and it took wing, but it gave me ample opportunity to get some magnificent shots.
I am so grateful to have seen it and to get this photo.

Wow, what a great shot! I can relate to how difficult it is to get a photo of a bald eagle. I have seen several recently, but my camera just isn't good enough to capture them!

Thanks, df Bag Lady. I am so grateful to have the K20D and zoom lens for this. It was fast enough that it acted like a motor drive thus enabling me to get several quick shots in a series.

That IS a magnificent moment for sure. My latest bald eagle sighting (and the only one in recent memory took place during a trip through Yellowstone about 2 years back. We actually only saw the nesting area which was blocked off from the road by orange caution cones and tape. The rangers knew enough about the crazy tourists to shield the eagle from nutcases in Yellowstone. Of course when I write "nutcase" I am not referring to myself.

That is a great photo you put up and I'm glad I visited today to see it.

(I need a new camera. Mine was stolen. Darn it.)

I'm glad you came by, POD. Thanks. It's always good to have you here.
Good for the Yellowstone rangers for protecting the eagles. I've seen nests on poles right beside the road in Montana and wondered how the birds fared.
Sorry to hear your camera was stolen. That's just miserable.

What a wonderful shot. I enlarged it and was so glad I did. The branches and twigs against that bleak gray sky are fabulous.

Well done you. And thanks to the eagle for cooperating so well!

Oh, oh, oh! What a fabulous shot, and how lucky you were to get a picture of a bald eagle! I've come up on some hawks on my hikes, but they've always flown off too quickly for me to get pictures of them.

Great work, and such a lovely picture of a magnificent bird - yes, even better when enlarged!

Thanks, Dawn. It must be seen big to be truly enjoyed. I'm so glad we found the eagle, and that it stayed so long.
The best thing about overcast winter days is they bring so much mood and character to a shot.

Thomma Lynn, thank you so very much.

Lovely, just lovely! Amazing even!

Thanks, Reb. I have about a dozen shots so you'll be seeing more of this bird.

What a beauty. I have only seen bald eagles from a distance about 10 years ago in Wisconsin. The closest I've come since then, is finding an abandoned nest with a feather below it. Beautiful shot. Looking forward to more.

Thank you, Hilary. I'll post more pics of it from time to time.

About 15 years ago I was visiting my brother on the west coast near Boundary Bay (south of Vancouver) and in the tree outside his house was a bald eagle's nest with a breeding pair that returned every year.

Nice shot you snared there.

It's such a treat to see them, Barbara.
Thanks.
