Photo by my husband, Mike Mayrl |
I figured I'd regret it if I passed up this chance.
I was not scared as the handlers for it make their living, such as it is, by putting scorpions on willing tourists. If someone gets hurt, there goes the livelihood. That said, I did feel better once it was removed.
Thanks to The Smitten Image for the POTW. |

Yikes!
*shudder!!*
I would have paased up the opportunity, really I would have!
Now it dawns on me that I had more than one reason to worry about you - can't let you out on your own, can I?
(And Mike just encourages this kind of behaviour, doesn't he? Sheesh!)
That about sums it, kcinnova.
Bag Lady, we cross-posted.
Okay, I admit I do like to try new things just for chucks, but let me assure you, Mike is in no way complicit, especially with this particular antic.
And no, I should not be out without an escort. It just gets me into trouble.
I thought your posts on Egypt were historic and something you found in older photos. I did not realize you were caught in the revolutionary nightmare. Good to read you made it home safely. As you have probably heard on the news an American woman in her 70s that lives in Cairo is currently stranded in her apartment downtown without electricity and water. I understand our embassy is trying to get to her, but only after the press published her story!
Very brave lady!! I don't think I could've done that. LOL
Oh my goodness!!!! You have more courage that I would, my friend! I can see the logic behind it but, still....kinda scary. What a souvenir!
Brave lady! Good on you - life is all about new experiences - even creepy ones.
Good for you! Nothing like sampling some of almost everything there is to do in another culture.
Oh Lord. I can't even look at this for too long--biut good for you for living life to the fullest!
Tabor, we were there as history was made. It was amazing.
June, thanks. You never know what you'll do until you get the opportunity.
Cheryl, it's certainly something to talk about.
Dawn, that's right. It was fun it its own way.
Messymimi, I am willing to try a wide range of things. It's all about experience.
Bossy Betty, thanks. I really thought it was worth it.
That scorpion is just a publicity hog. It knew it would end up on one of the better blogs on the net.
Brave lady!
Hilary, you're going to give me a swelled head. Thanks.
But you're right. The scorpion was a total ham.
Cool photo! Good for you for trying new things all the time. I'm not sure I would've been able to try that one myself.
Thanks, Reb. Don't underestimate yourself. You never know what you'll get up to until you get the opportunity.
Usually I come back and look at your photo-finish Fridays several times. Not.this.time.
You look very stoic.
Mary Anne in Kentucky
You're a brave girl, Leah. Looks an interesting place.
Mary Anne, will be back to regularly scheduled real scenic photos next week. Funsies are over.
David, thank you. It was.
Oh my goodness!
Ladyfi, it was kind of fun.
Ack! I got the willies just looking at it. YOu are a brave soul.
Thank you, Laurita. I like to face my fears.
You are a bravely woman... I'd never give THAT a try.
omg...no way!
you def deserve the potw for setting that shot up...yikes!
MaggieGem, the opportunity presented itself. I felt I should.
Thanks, Brian. It wasn't that bad.
OMG!
Wait, let me take another look.
OMG!
I've often said 'well-deserved POTW', but this time I REALLY mean it!
I think I'd've been okay with it on top of my hat, but I dunno about dangling his business end in front of my eyes....
Hello EthelMaePotter,
thanks for stopping by.It was fun in its own way.
Frank, I'd rather have it where I can keep an eye or two on it.
Wow, you definitely deserve the POTW for bravery, if nothing else, but it is a wonderful photo, too!
I'd prefer a camel ride myself.
Barbara S., thank you.
Barbara M., I did that too. Stay tuned.
Jealous! I went to Egypt and was never given that opportunity.
Good for you, what a great photos to have!
Congrats on your mention at Hilary's POTW :-)
imbeingheldhostage, thanks. I'm so sorry you were deprived of the chance to be up close and personal with a scorpion. Maybe someday.
I screamed out loud! You are so brave! : )
Hi Life,
thanks. A lot can get accomplished when one grits one's teeth.
My goodness, that took some very serious fortitude. I think I probably would have passed on the opportunity as there are a huge variety of experiences I can do without, many of which involve scary bugs.
Besides, I get to live vicariously through people like you!
I'm here via Hilary's, by the way :-) One other thing? Your hat looks vaguely doubtful about the proceedings, very, "That's all well and good, m'lady but might I point out that the aforementioned bug clings directly to me? Just because I lack a central nervous system doesn't mean I don't have feelings!!"
I'm like the Lorax for hats, evidently. I speak for the headwear ;-) Great photo!
