Photo Finish Friday - Chickadees at Sunset

Chickadees wait in a tree as the sun sets behind them on a cold winter day.

Don't they sleep up there? With their little heads tucked under their wings? How on EARTH do they not fall out?

That's a beauty of a shot, Leah.

Tokaiangel, oh, yes, and sometimes at the feeders, too. I've seen them with their little birdie feet in the snow and I've wondered how they stay warm.

Thank you so much, Hilary.

such a beautiful shot.
have you thought of posting just the pic and 'making' us write the caption or post.

I have started trying to do that with your photos as a sort of writing exercise.

NERD ALERT. I know.

MizFit, thank you. I hadn't thought of making others do my work for me, but it's a good idea. It appeals to my growing sense of laziness. I'll give it some thought. I'm very curious as to the captions you've come up with.
Any chance you could email me same?
You can also post them here if you like. You don't have to, of course. But you've piqued my interest.

Great photo, dfLeah! Chickadees are amongst my favourite birds - they are always so cheerful-sounding!

And love Miz's idea for writing captions... for everyone else to write them, that is... I've never been good at that. Can barely come up with titles for my blog posts. ~~sigh~~

Maybe it's a personality test... MizFit sees fun writing exercises and I see: hmm, how long 'til bedtime?

Great shot!

dfBag Lady, thanks. I love the winter light. It puts such an interesting cast on the world. Oh help yourself to the caption writing. I'm curious to read your take on the world.

LOL, Crabby. May I consider that your contribution to any caption writing exercise?
Thanks. Glad you like it.

Your photos of birds and the commentary have actually made me want to learn the types and how to recognize them. Previously I could identify the major ones as well as some outliers like a roadrunner that lived in our yard but I couldn't tell a chickadee from a sparrow at this point. Did you always know these things or did you set out specifically to learn?

Leah J. Utas said...

Erin, thanks. I've been trying to learn them over the past few years. I knew chickadee and blue jay and I knew an eagle from a hawk, but couldn't tell you what kind of hawk. I really didn't care for birds much until five or six yers ago. My husband was pretty good with identifying them and he is quite fond of them. They grew on me to the point I like to have them around and we feed them year round.

Beautiful photo Leah. I like the idea of a caption contest too.

Thanks, Reb. I'll give the caption contest some thought. I'll need to find an appropriate pic for it.

Oh wow, that is an incredibly beautiful photo -- and so precious of the little chickadees. Mystical and sweet, at the same time.

How wonderful of you to say, Thomma Lyn. Thank you.

Lovely shot - shame we don't have chickadees

Been following the daily progress of a family ducks on my morning walk and was saddened to see that 3 ducklings had disappeared overnight. Still 2 left and hopefully they will survive.

Thanks Dawn. Good to see you here.
Sorry to hear about the ducklings.
