Photo Finish Friday -Waiting Wings

This male Hairy Woodpecker is the mate of the one in the photo from Monday's post.
He found a way to keep himself occupied while he awaited his turn at the feeder.
Now that the cold weather is here the feeders are very busy and we are rarely without woodpeckers.

I don't know what is more time consuming, shoveling or filling the feeders. Many cardinals here.

Hello Tom. I've never seen a cardinal in the wild.
I think the birds are depending on us. We've still got pine siskins coming to the feeders.

I've got woodpeckers at my feeders, too - both Hairy and Downy. And Redpolls, and Pine Grosbeaks, and, of course, Chickadees.
Oh, and the buck deer that comes every night and empties it. Brat.

I think we've been visited upon by deer, too. We've got chickadees, house sparrows, house finches, and woodpeckers, but we've hardly had any redpolls this year. What are we doing wrong???

My regulars are a Downy, several chickadees, a male and female cardinal, sparrows and bluejays. I think I'll try adding another variety or two of seed to see if I can attract more species.

Missicat, we haven't seen our squirrel in a while. He (she?) likes othang on the peanut feeder and try to eat.

Df Terrie, it's our pleasure.

Hi, Frank. We get the occasional blue jay around here as well as crows and magpies. What seed are you using?

I spoke too soon about the redpolls. They've been visiting the feeders this morning.

The manager here won't let us hang feeders, she think they attract the mice and then they get into the building.

Love the photo.

Thanks, Reb. Bird food in one's home attracts mice. We found out the hard (and icky) way.

*grin*, I love your woodpeckers! We have red-headed woodpeckers in our mountains. We hear them pecking away at trees sometimes. Amazing how they can peck so fast!

We have lots of cardinals and blue jays here. Both beautiful, but oh dear, those blue jays can be ornery little fellows!

Hello Thomma Lynn. Yes they are fast. I wonder how they do it.
We get the occasional blue jay at the feeders. As for ornery, though, you can't outdo a magpie.
