Techno-Twit

Hello, my name is Leah and I am a techno-twit. There. I feel better already.

Why the admission?

Well, there’s something I want to do, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I’m stumped.

I’m not a total twit, of course. I’ve managed to gather quite a few skills on my own over the years.
For example, I taught myself to make piecrust. I woke up one March morning four or five or five years ago and decided “Today’s the day.” The first crusts were brutal though the filling made it tolerable.
I persevered. I made many a crust and learned as I went. They’re adequate now and I have since declared March as “Pie Month” to honor my work. Hey, any excuse for pie.

I’ve taught myself other things too and can get by in the world. I’m even pretty good at opening jar lids. It’s a necessary skill for a single woman. Even though I’m not single any more I still open most of the jars myself. It amuses me and makes me feel powerful.

I am far from helpless. Fortunately, I am far from being unable to ask for help when I need it.

So, I’m asking: how in heaven’s name do I make text bold, italic, or underline in the blog comments trail?

I’m serious. I cannot for the life of me figure it out.
I’ve tried everything I can think of and nothing happens.
I searched through Blogger Help and it was just as helpful as it could be. That’s why I’m asking.
Please, somebody, spell it out for me.

Use simple words, ideally of one syllable or less. Draw a picture. Point if you can.

Thank you.

It's just basic HTML tags. You should be able to see it on the comment screen, at the bottom of the comment window.

It's very hard to show it in the comments because Blogger Comments wants to read the tags, thus rendering them invisible to you.

However, the basics are these:

b inside <> makes bold
/b inside <> turns off bold

i inside <> makes italics
/i inside <> turns it off

u inside <> makes underline, except in Blogger Comments, which doesn't allow underlining

/u turns of underline

Good luck, and feel free to practice by leaving comments on any of my blogs!

So it's basically html code. I don't have a handy link, and only have italics memorized, but it's easy to find a list on google.

I tried to show you the code for italics by putting it in quotes, but when I previewed, it just turned everything into italics!

Some example start tags are listed right below the "leave your comment box." The end tags are the same except you put a / before the letter. That sounds more complicated than it is. But really, just google html codes and you should be able to find a handy list.

Okay, while I was previewing, BunnyGirl came in with a better explanation. Never mind!

Thank you, Bunnygirl.
I didn't know about the "/" business.
It took me several tries, doing exactly what you said to do, before it took.
But it did!

Crabby, it never occurred tome to Google html codes. Thanks.

And now, I'm going to see what the "a" tag does.

HTML Goodies have some wonderful tutorials and I did my website mostly on what I learnt through them. I knew nothing before that. Try this one.(fingers crossed I haven't made a error in the middle of that link!)
